Sony PS5 shatters console sales records for a single quarter in 2023, beats out its predecessor

It’s been a slow start for the PS5, but if the sales figures for the last quarter are any indication, the console could be well on its way to being one of the best-selling of all time. Sony faced a ton of problems when it launched the PS5 in the middle of a global pandemic with chip shortages and the like contributing to slow sales and the lack of physical consoles. But, once the situation was a bit better and the shortages were plugged, the PS5 emerged as the winner as far as this generation of consoles goes.

PS5 smashes PS4 record of consoles sold in 3 months

In just three short months, the PS5 has allegedly outsold even the PS4 for that period of time. It has basically destroyed the PS4’s record at the same time. A consolidated financial result report by Sony suggests that the PS5 has sold about 6.3 million units in just the first quarter of 2023. That’s about 2 million consoles sold in a month. If these numbers are true then the PS5 is well on its way to becoming one of the best-selling consoles of all time, up there with the Nintendo Switch, Wii and PS2.

But, if there’s one thing that the PS4 has over its successor is that it sold over 40 million units over its life-cycle and it’s still being purchased in various markets across the world. There have been rumours of a PS5 Pro and the like, but with how the PS5 is going right now, it would not be a smart idea to introduce an upgrade to a console that is already quite powerful. On a personal note, I’ve been gaming much more on my PS5 than I was on my PS4. The blazing-fast SSD and ease of gaming make it much easier for me to just jump into a quick game.

So, what do you guys think of the PS5 selling about 6.8 million units in just three months?

Let’s see what else you could expect out of the new YouTube Music feature.
