Apple Watch Update Advised By Indian Government Against Phishing and Hacking: CERT-In

If you haven’t updated your Apple Watch to the latest software version, then it’s high time you do that. If in case, you need help with it, here we have a guide for that. This is important as the CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) has found vulnerabilities in the Apple Watch that could leave it bare and open to threats like hacking, phishing, and data loss.

In a recent report, CERT-In, a Government of India department has discovered several vulnerabilities in the Apple Watch that could let bad actors execute arbitrary code, bypass the built-in security and take control of your data.

It points to the issue with the “buffer overflow in the AppleAVD component; an authorization issue in the AppleMobileFileintegrity component; out-of-bounds write in Audio, ICU and WebKit component; type confusion in Multi-Touch component; Multiple out-of-bounds write and memory corruption in GPU Drivers component; out-of-bounds read in Kernel component and memory initialization in libxmI2 component”.

All those technical mumbo jumbo aside, what you need to know is that Apple has already fixed it. In its security content report, this buffer overflow issue in the Apple AVD component with “improved bounds checking”. 

So, here’s what you got to do:

Apple Watch

1. Go to the Settings on your Apple Watch. 

2. Press on General

3. Tap on Software Update.

4. The watch will scan and show you the download option if it’s available. 

5. Click on Download and Install. 

The Watch will be updated and the aforementioned vulnerability will also be fixed as a result.
