LG has started rolling out AirPlay 2 and Homekit support to select 2018 Smart TVs

LG has started rolling out Airplay 2 and Homekit support for select 2018 Smart TVs with a software update according to MacRumours. Also, the report states that the company had promised this update earlier in the year in a tweet and has started to deliver on its promise.

Airplay 2 enables Apple users to stream music, podcasts, and videos from their iPhones, iPads, or Mac devices to their televisions just like Android users use the Chromecast feature. The inclusion of this update enables Apple device users to stream to their televisions without the need for any external device or Apple TV box.

Customers worldwide can now enjoy the Apple TV app on LG 2018 OLED and Super UHD TVs, with UHD TV models to follow. LG's 2018 TVs will add support for Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit later this year, and more details will be shared when these features become available

The update also includes support for Homekit, which enables the users to control the volume, TV power, and more using just the Home app or Siri for hands-free control of the device. The features are also found on select Televisions and devices for which the list can be found here.

Initially, the company had said that it would only support TVs manufactured after 2019 since they could not guarantee a seamless user experience on older models. This resulted in thousands of people petitioning the company to reconsider its standing for the support.

LG had also made the Apple TV app available on select 2018 smart TVs and you can check out the details below. The company has not listed out any specific models which would be getting Airplay 2 support.
